Review of the audiobook for Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone: STORY
What’s Good
These works represent the gold standard for the genre and are pure magic. J.K. Rowling turns the traditional notion of young children going to boarding school on its head. Normally, we would anticipate all the interesting events to occur while we are on vacation, but not this time.
The narrative centers on Harry’s first year at the school for witches and wizards known as Hogwarts. We first see Harry’s struggle to survive on a daily basis in a muggle (non-magical) family and his relatives, the Dursleys, with whom he lives. Currently, everything is unclear and we don’t know much, but this is about to change, and as listeners, we are going to set off on an exhilarating quest to learn Harry’s heritage.
Even though the Harry Potter audiobook series was created with kids in mind, hundreds of parents have nonetheless given the first book in the series a five-star rating. An introduction to an optimistic, hopeful universe in which everything is possible may be found in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. As a result, this book naturally appeals to a younger audience, yet it is also essential listening for everyone. How could anyone not want to live in such a world? The novels are enjoyable and innovative.
what’s bad
Nothing negative can actually be said about Harry Potter. Some people would find it irritatingly convenient that Harry appears to have done nothing while nevertheless amassing fame, wealth, a reputation, and a free broomstick. Even though I’ll go so far as to say that the first book in the series is the worst of the bunch, I still think it’s far superior to the majority of other novels on the market!
CHARACTERS
What’s Good
There are so many characters to like, and I’ll give you a little introduction to the important ones;
The hero is Harry Potter. By the conclusion, Harry has developed into a formidable hero. He has a scar in the form of lightning that Voldemort left on his forehead. Harry is a person worth fighting for. Although far from flawless, he has generally excellent morals. Time and time again, we witness him strive, fail, and then succeed.
Hermione Granger is a beloved student of her professors and a strict observer of all school regulations. After learning to value friendship over obedience and perfection, Hermione befriends Harry.
Ron Weasley is Harry’s first buddy; they get along well right away and grow close. Despite not having Harry’s talent or personality, his commitment is nonetheless valuable. You can definitely relate to Ron, who is also probably my favorite character.
Hagrid is a giant who looks after the school’s grounds. Hagrid is a kind-hearted being who has more kindness than intelligence. Harry is dear to his heart.
Head of Hogwarts Albus Dumbledore is a compassionate and smart man. Despite being a well-known wizard, Dumbledore is a modest, down-to-earth person.
A wonderful wizard gone bad is Voldemort. Voldemort left Harry with a scar in the form of lightning after killing his parents.
Harry’s adversary and conceited classmate Draco Malfoy. Malfoy, a wealthy snob sprung from a long line of wizards, believes he has a right to the Hogwarts education. Like King Geoffrey in Game of Thrones, Draco Malfoy develops into a character you love to despise.
What’s bad
Not a lot of awful.
NARRATOR
What’s Good
The Philosopher’s Stone comes in two different narrations, one by Jim Dale and the other by Stephen Fry. Our outline and a video for comparison are provided below.
The characters are given considerably more life by Stephen Fry. Hagrid’s voice is deep, stern, yet compassionate, as you might imagine. Although Hermione first comes across as extremely unpleasant and precocious, she progressively loses that quality as the novel goes on. The narrative envelops you in a cozy blanket of joy, contentment, and a sense of community. The narrative is made much more soothing and pleasurable by Fry reading it to you. Even though Harry Potter is J. K. Rowling’s debut novel and her language may have some issues in some parts (especially when depicting life with the Dursleys at the beginning), Harry Potter is undeniably a masterpiece that Stephen Fry makes even more beautiful. All ages should listen to this audiobook, in my opinion.
Jim Dale is a wonderful narrator as well. Dale also has an English accent due to his birthplace. Dale is a voice actor who leans heavily toward the dramatic side of the scale. Dale makes you feel a feeling of urgency and keeps you alert with his voice. Even while the enhanced dramatization is often excellent, I think it may occasionally be a touch excessive.
Dale is a character magician; he provided 134 distinct voices for the Harry Potter books. Dale has received more honors for this series than any other narrator before. His reputation and the range of bestseller publicity are rather astounding.
It’s bad
Some individuals might find Jim Dale a tad over the top, while others would find Stephen Fry to be dry and nasally. Go with Dale if you’re targeting the US market. In the US market, Dale is unquestionably the preferred option. If not, I would vote for Fry, although I am prejudiced because here is where I started.
